Grassroots Action: Viewpoints on Latinx Activism with Marisa Franco

Marisa Franco is the National Director and Co-Founder of Mijente, a digital and grassroots organizing hub for Latinx and Chicanx people. In her almost 20 years of work as an organizer and movement builder, Marisa has helped lead key grassroots organizing and electoral campaigns rooted in low-income and communities of color, characterized by their innovation and effectiveness. She is a trusted collaborator with grassroots leaders across the country spanning immigrant rights, racial justice, feminist, LGBTQ and labor movements. Marisa was named a New York Times 2018 Visionary and has been written and/or been featured on CNN, MSNBC, Univision/Al Punto, Politico and the Washington Post.

This semester, several campus partners, offices and student organizations have collaborated on a speaker series dedicated to building our capacity and ability for activism across campus. Starting with LaTosha Brown of the Black Voters Matter Fund in February, this series brings notable and respected community organizers, advocates and changemakers to campus to tell their stories, showcase their activism and inspire us to make a difference in our community.
